REFLECTION on 'Reflections'

Prior to taking this Technology in Education Course (EDET), I knew and was always of the view that as much technology as possible should be incorporated into classroom lessons, especially since students nowadays tend to show so much interest in technology.

What I did not know was exactly how to effectively incorporate all these advancements into classroom instruction.  This course has taught me just that!

I think that this course or something similar should have been taught to ALL teachers at every level, prior to or during the distribution of laptops six (6) years ago. Additionally, there should be annual follow-up professional development sessions specifically geared at providing further training for teachers in this area.

Can you imagine how many more students I would have been able to reach or motivate even more had I had this training before now????

My greatest challenge was not necessarily with grasping the concepts taught. It was my computer itself. My system is out-dated and seemingly incompatible with almost EVERYTHING!  Maybe it’s time MOE gives teachers an upgrade. I spent more time waiting on the laptop to UN-freeze and to “RESPOND”, than I did actually carrying out assigned tasks.  This was frustrating!!!

Nonetheless, I have managed to accomplish most of the activities required, although some things are still “LOADING…”.

I eagerly look forward to incorporating EVERYTHING that I have learnt over the past semester in this EDET class, especially using Audacity and Filmora for my French comprehension sessions and for my Visual Arts classes as well.

Not only that, Mrs. Roberts has cemented in my mind the view that the teacher does make a difference: She utilized EVERY avenue to cater to ALL learning types and ensured that we had adequate amount of support material/information (countless emails, videos, audio, whatsapp…. You name it – she sent it!).  LOL!  She was always early, prepared, enthusiastic no matter what, and always had a Plan B, Plan C, Plan D, Plan E and Plan F.  No matter what mood the class was in, she always always found a way to ‘infect’ us with her passion and enthusiasm, so we had no choice BUT to enjoy the sessions. J Thank you Mrs. Roberts.
