The Lake Reflections #2 - ASSURE Model & Google Forms

I attended my first EDET class on Tuesday, 11th October, 2016. The class was noticeably tired and frustrated, and at that time of day (2pm), after having been in classes all day since 8:30 a.m., no-one was in any mood to do anything else, least of all looking at computer screens or participate in yet another group activity. I certainly was not.

However, Mrs. Roberts was very perceptive and realized the atmosphere in the classroom.  After a two-minute “get up and stretch and move around” session, and a pep talk, we were all ready to go.

During a review of the topics discussed in the last class, we were asked to label everything that would be considered as technology.  Then students aired their views on the numerous emails received on the Saturday night from the instructor.  From that we were able to conclude that technology can be invasive, overwhelming, intrusive, time-consuming, annoying, etc.

It was pointed out that teachers need to know the following:
HOW to use technology
WHEN to use technology
WHY to use technology
WITH WHOM to use technology
WHERE to use technology

We learnt about the ASSURE model of lesson planning:
Ø  Analysing the audience (the learners)
Ø  Stating the objectives/including differentiation strategies
Ø  Selecting related methods, media and material
Ø  Utilizing related media and material
Ø  Requiring learner participation
Ø  Evaluation and revision

Stating was further broken down into 4 steps:      Action
                                                                                Behaviour
                                                                                Condition
                                                                                Degree

We then went on to use Google drive form to create a quiz. I succeeded with a few challenges since this was my first time using it.  My main issue was that I was doing it on my ipad as opposed to my laptop and some of the icons and menus were not the same.  I learnt something new!
